Health is Your Only Wealth

Is it just me, or is exercise easier and more fun in the summertime? I had a great outdoor yoga session yesterday which prompted this short post, so that I could share what motivates me (including two songs that I am totally bingeing on right now).

MY WORKOUT: Yoga            MY INSPIRATION: This video of Equinox instructor Briohny Smyth

MY WORKOUT: Jogging         MY SOUNDTRACK: Music by Benny Benassi never fails to give me that extra push!

The title of this post is especially fitting for me right now. I'm in the midst of my post-grad job search (read: unemployed). All I really have is loads of time. Health is literally my only wealth at the moment, and with all this free time I am getting healthy - through jogging, weight training, rock climbing, and yoga. Later this summer I also hope to try kayaking, hiking, and maybe a wild card like zumba (or just a good old fashioned dance-a-thon with my girl friends!).

Details in Vienna

Beauty presents itself far more often in European cities, in exquisite details such as these, and often in unexpected or mundane places. For example: when you look up!

Old Faithful Geyser

By far the most disappointing stop on our long drive through Yellowstone was Old Faithful. Touted as the "Statue of Liberty of the West," I was expecting a geyser to put everything else we had seen into teeny tiny perspective. When we saw it erupt, at first we thought we had missed the main event, then we thought we might have to wait for it to reach full power, and eventually accepted with a shrug that that was all.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

Enjoy Lana Del Rey's subversively patriotic "National Anthem."

Colorful Colorado

As we turned west off the highway in Fort Collins an eerie panorama presented itself: a blurred view of the majestic Rocky Mountains backlit by hazy orange light, with smoke reaching far up into the sky. The fires raging through Colorado have spread across nearly 230,000 acres, taking two lives and burning more than 340 homes to the ground. My heart goes out to those who have lost their homes and their lives, and to those still in danger in northwest Colorado.

On Sunday night my friends Brittany and Pat took Amanda and I out to LuLu's in Fort Collins for dinner, and as we paid our bill we noticed the sudden downpour outside. It didn't look like it would stop anytime soon, and so we took off running through the rain that we hoped would reach the scorched and blazing earth. [Thanks again to Brittany and Pat for showing us a good time!]

Although our plans to hike and raft were no longer possible, we found plenty of fun things to do in COLORADO...

Pearl Street in Boulder   A fun pedestrian shopping mall with plenty of affordable souvenirs, bars, and street performers throwing fire and playing music.

The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park   A grand hotel way up in the Rocky Mountains, at an elevation of around 7,500 feet.

Red Rocks Ampitheatre   Hands down the coolest concert venue I have ever been to.

Grand Canyon

After nearly 2,000 miles of open road, 36 hours in transit, the family reaches the Grand Canyon.

Charlie and Sam pretend to fall off...
Dylan and Amanda... do not.
