Colorful Colorado

As we turned west off the highway in Fort Collins an eerie panorama presented itself: a blurred view of the majestic Rocky Mountains backlit by hazy orange light, with smoke reaching far up into the sky. The fires raging through Colorado have spread across nearly 230,000 acres, taking two lives and burning more than 340 homes to the ground. My heart goes out to those who have lost their homes and their lives, and to those still in danger in northwest Colorado.

On Sunday night my friends Brittany and Pat took Amanda and I out to LuLu's in Fort Collins for dinner, and as we paid our bill we noticed the sudden downpour outside. It didn't look like it would stop anytime soon, and so we took off running through the rain that we hoped would reach the scorched and blazing earth. [Thanks again to Brittany and Pat for showing us a good time!]

Although our plans to hike and raft were no longer possible, we found plenty of fun things to do in COLORADO...

Pearl Street in Boulder   A fun pedestrian shopping mall with plenty of affordable souvenirs, bars, and street performers throwing fire and playing music.

The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park   A grand hotel way up in the Rocky Mountains, at an elevation of around 7,500 feet.

Red Rocks Ampitheatre   Hands down the coolest concert venue I have ever been to.
